HELP

I should be doing my homework right now, but I felt the need to post a blog and now I'm giving into that "need". I'm actually just avoiding doing it, but w/e.

I have a question about natural hair products. If you haven't read my previous post, I did the big chop two weeks ago. Yay me! LOL. Anyway, I wanted to know what are some good products for natural hair. I have hair type 4a and so far, all I've been using is Cantu Shea Butter as a leave-in and Suave Naturals Conditioner to wash and sometimes as a leave-in. They work pretty good except that by the end of the day, my hair is dry again.

I want to know what products will keep my hair soft and moisturized throughout the day. Even though I live in Cali and just yesterday it was about 74 degrees, it's still cold and it affects my hair. So if you know of any products that you have personally used that are cheap and work, please let me know.

Now I'm going to go do the dreadful, pointless homework.
Love. Peace. Hair Grease.

  1. Try Carol's Daughter. I love the Mimosa Hair Honey. Their products are natural, and pricey but their worth it.

  2. Hi,

I am a 4a, too and I find that shea butter and avocado butter work really well for my hair. The key (for me) is to spritz my hair with something like a liquid leave-in (lately I've been using Carol's Daughter's Black Vanilla Leave-In) and then applying a butter. IMO, the Mimosa Hair Honey is like a natural "grease" it's kind of like a solid oil, IMO. I hope that helps! :)

  3. Lately I have been reading great reviews about Kinky Curly products and several have come from people with 4-type hair textures. I haven't tried them personally but due to the reviews and this winter weather I plan to. Check out their site http://www.kinky-curly.com/

Oyin's Burnt Sugar is one of my favorites http://oyinhandmade.com/oyin/

Lately, I've just been mixing my own moisturizer - Shea butter and a scent. Check out Oils By Nature http://www.oilsbynature.com/- they sell Shea Butter for a little over $6 a pound and it lasts forever.

I just mix a little of the shea butter and a couple of tablespoons of either olive or coconut oil with a blender and it makes a great moisturizer (you can also add scent) - and in the long run it comes out much cheaper.

You should also try looking at the product board on Napturality http://www.nappturality.com/.

BTW - Your hair looks great. Congrats on your big chop.

  4. Hi there, I recently went natural 4 wks ago, It's been a whole month. I too am having trouble with dry hair. I have started using the Cantu Leave in conditioner also and hoping to see a digfference. In the morning my hair is soft and shiny, but by the middle of the day it is dry. I travel with oil shee spray. I am learning that it is trial and error and I just gotta roll with it. Hope I find something soon, if I do I will let know, and I hope if you find something you will let me know also. I dont want to have to go back to a perm.

  5. You can try raw shea butter. I used it and it made my hair really soft. I loved it! I also use the garnier fructis leave in conditioner.
